Certainly he'd never expected gunfire to sound pleasant, but the hits the Albiore had taken left Hojo's ears ringing long after they'd left the naval ships behind.

#02 - Hero

"If you're still angry with me over this in a week I'll shoot you myself," Hojo muttered, somehow irritated despite everything; Jade had always had this bizarre habit of letting things die prematurely regardless of what - or who - might have been negatively affected by it.

#03 - Memory

It was unlike Hojo to brood, but he found that the longer he stayed on the Albiore -- and more specifically in Jade's presence -- the more frequently he tended to withdraw into the past; oftentimes Jade had a hard time deciding if this was a good thing or not.

#04 - Box

It had taken him a little while to notice the box on top of a shelf in Jade's quarters, but the look Hojo received when he asked about its contents got him to drop the subject immediately.

#05 - Run

As he escorted Zuko off of the Albiore Hojo seriously considered disappearing into Illyria; after a few minutes of reflection he was somewhat surprised to realize that his reasons for not doing so had very little to do with the very real possibility of being captured again.

#06 - Hurricane

From land, a hurricane was interesting; from the air, Hojo discovered very quickly, it was terrifying.

#07 - Wings

Hojo enjoyed the solitude he got sitting on a wing of the Albiore when the ship was in port and he wasn't permitted to leave, but he didn't complain when Jade began joining him there.

#08 - Cold



#09 - Red

Hojo was almost positive that Jade's eyes had not been that color when they were children, but the few times he'd asked about it he'd only received a generic smile and a subject change.

#10 - Drink

Hojo supposed he had absolutely no room to criticize, since he himself took horrid care of his health, but the idea of anything at all driving Jade to drink was very unnerving.

#11 - Midnight

Well, it wasn't as though either of them had a habit of going to sleep early anyway.

#12 - Temptation

Withholding his intentions for the three months he spent on the Miranda had been one of the most difficult things he'd ever done, and Jade's dismissal of that in favor of anger at his slight regrets hurt worse than Hojo even knew he had the capacity for.

It had been almost a month since Jade made up his mind to turn Hojo over to the naval officials at next port; it had been three weeks since the Albiore started flying aimlessly across Aegis without actually stopping.

As unfair as it was, and as understandable as it was for Jade to have nightmares sometimes, getting elbowed in the side whenever he happened to fall asleep where he was instead of going back to his own quarters was making it very difficult for Hojo to be sympathetic.

Hojo very quickly discovered that when he and Jade stopped talking the days got very long, and eventually he found had nothing to say to anyone at all.

Over time, as Jade began to trust him more at his ship's helm, Hojo got very good at crossing the Sanzu at its thickest point -- even after Stork's numerous upgrades to the ship it was almost less dangerous than crossing at the most-used and most-patrolled crossings.

For all his accusations to the contrary, during his rare moments of introspection he did have to wonder which of them was more afraid of the dark -- the one content to let it be or the one who would illuminate it at any cost.

#49 - Lock
Hojo didn't care how appropriate it might have been, the handcuffs were not funny.
